What inspired you to start volunteering with CACUBO?
I was first inspired to volunteer with CACUBO after attending the CACUBO Leadership Institute in 2018. Following the conference, I sent an email expressing how motivating and insightful the experience had been. I shared that it was one of the first conferences where I felt I could immediately apply what I learned to improve myself and my department. The combination of the book discussions, team‑building exercises, presentations, and Dr. Graham’s sessions made a lasting impression. Our team—Team “Dijon”—even continued communicating after the conference, sharing best practices and supporting one another as we applied what we learned. I ended my email by saying I looked forward to future CACUBO workshops and would be interested in volunteering. Within a few hours, I received a warm and encouraging response and was invited to serve on the 2020 Annual Meeting Program Committee. That early, positive experience with CACUBO’s welcoming and supportive community is what inspired me to get involved—and what keeps me engaged today.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your volunteer work?
The most rewarding aspect of my volunteer work is the opportunity to collaborate with peers from other higher‑education institutions. I genuinely enjoy working alongside colleagues who bring different perspectives, experiences, and ideas to the table. Together, we’re able to develop and deliver high‑quality professional‑development resources and create meaningful networking opportunities that support business officers across the region.
Knowing that our collective efforts help others grow, connect, and succeed within their institutions makes the work truly fulfilling.
Share a memorable experience or story from your time volunteering.
A memorable experience from my time volunteering with CACUBO was a road trip I took with a fellow volunteer to an Annual Conference. I was a little nervous beforehand—small talk doesn’t always come naturally to me, and I wondered whether the long drive might feel awkward or what we would talk about. But the trip turned out to be wonderful. Our conversation flowed easily, and we shared stories about our work, our experiences, and ourselves.
By the time we arrived, I felt like I had gained not just a colleague, but a genuine friend. It’s the kind of connection that goes beyond volunteering—someone I know I can reach out to if I ever need insight, advice, or support from a peer at another institution. That experience really reinforced what I value most about CACUBO: the relationships built along the way.
What do you enjoy about working in higher education?
I enjoy working in higher education because I genuinely love the institution I serve, and being part of a place I believe in makes the work more meaningful. The university’s values—especially its commitment to social mobility—align closely with my own. I take pride in knowing that the work I do contributes to the student experience and supports their ability to succeed.
Working in this environment motivates me to continue growing, strengthening my leadership skills, and improving both myself and the department I’m part of. CACUBO aligns naturally with these goals, providing opportunities for professional and leadership development that help me better serve my campus community.
What hobbies or interests do you have outside of volunteering?
Outside of volunteering, I’m a sports fanatic. I love cheering on my institution’s student‑athletes and following my city’s professional teams, along with other programs across the state. I also enjoy reading, traveling, and spending quality time with my family—those are the things that keep me grounded and energized.
