Marty Mickey & Julee Sherman
Nomination Remarks:
"Jerry is very dedicated to CACUBO. He has been involved in many aspects of CACUBO - chair of Program, several Host Committees. His wife, Polly, should also be noted as she is a regular volunteer at our annual conferences. Their hearts favor community service projects!"
What inspired you to start volunteering with CACUBO?
After going to three or four annual conferences, I wanted to give back to the organization. I also wanted to build deeper friendships with others who go to the conference.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your volunteer work?
I have really enjoyed working behind the scenes, helping to make the conference both enjoyable and informative for my colleagues. Seeing people have the opportunity to network with others who can give good advice or empathize going through a tough situation at work. Hearing someone say, "That was an awesome session!" makes all the hard work worth it.
What is a memorable experience or story from your time volunteering?
There have been a lot of great experiences. The one that sticks out the most was in 2008 when the annual conference was in Fort Lauderdale. One of the dinners took place on a yacht traveling on the Intracoastal Waterway. Seeing the sights of Fort Lauderdale and enjoying fellowship with my colleagues is a time I will not forget.
What do you enjoy about working in higher education?
Going to school at Anderson University completely changed my life. I got into higher education because of what it did for me. While working behind the scenes, I believe I am able to give back and be a part of changing the lives of students coming to my school.
What hobbies or interests do you have outside of volunteering?
My favorite activity outside of CACUBO and work is being a Special Olympics swimming coach. Nothing fills you up more than being a part of these athletes' lives. I also enjoy golfing, doing projects around the house & traveling to national parks with my family.

On top of my list right now is The Six Types of Working Genius by Patrick Lencioni. I am also a big fan of his book, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team.
